Take time to do your own Leadership Performance Review. Review the Wynstone Partners 10 Elements of Leadership. Ask yourself these questions. You will be strong in some and require more effort with others. Work on one or two a month.

Self-Awareness

  • Are you comfortable with ambiguity?
  • Do you know your level of hyper-competitiveness?
  • Are you aware of your "Elements of Leadership?
  • What new skills are you learning? Tweeting? Mandarin?
  • Are you patient enough to be silent so you can be a good listener?
  • Do you know your weak spots and improvement needs?
  • Do you understand your brand and how to leverage it?

Operational Excellence

  • Is there quality in everything you do?
  • Are priorities clear?
  • Do you and your team feel accountable?
  • What will you stop doing?
  • Are you delegating?
  • Are you simplifying?
  • Are you adding value?

Building Relationships

  • Do you have a good relationship with your shareholders?
  • Do you have a good relationship with your boss/subordinates?
  • Do you have good relationships outside the company to access best solutions?

Strategic Thinking/Vision

  • Do you take time to think?
  • Do you know where your group is going?
  • Do you know where you are and where you are going?
  • Do you know what success looks like?
  • Are you comfortable with your role as "conductor of the symphony"?
  • Do you have group alignment on vision and objectives everywhere?
  • Do you understand the situation and the factors you must influence?
  • Do you stay focused and not allow the urgent things to keep you from doing what is important?

Innovation

  • How often do you network for the best practices?
  • Do you look within or outside the company for best solutions?
  • How often do you benchmark?

Courage/Boldness

  • Are you comfortable pushing back?
  • Are you willing to change your mind given better data?
  • Will you challenge the status quo?
  • Do you recognize your role as warrior?
  • Can you deliver the hard message?
  • Do you view facts as "friendly"?
  • Do you recognize when you or others have made a mistake and accept this as a learning point?
  • Can you make difficult decisions with the information at hand?
  • Are you comfortable seeking advice from trusted advisors?

Developing Talent

  • Do you have the team in place to win?
  • Can you balance potential and ability in talent?
  • Do you understand the value of diversity of thought?
  • Is your "trust but verify" system robust?
  • Do you have high integrity development plans in place for your people?
  • Are you providing opportunities inside and outside of your group?
  • Are you appropriately raising the bar on performance?
  • Are you comfortable with talent better than you?

Executive Presence

  • Do you have charisma?
  • Do you practice good global manners?
  • How is your wardrobe?
  • Do you have a personal brand?
  • Would your team let you lead them through a fog?

Communication Skills

  • Do you engage the audience when you present?
  • Do you ask good questions?
  • Do you have a clear and consistent communication process both up and down?
  • Do you listen more than you speak?

Ethics & Integrity

  • Do you realize that your people watch you all the time?
  • Do you accept your position as role model?
  • Do you stay on the correct side of the line?
  • Do you do what's right; not what is expedient?
  • Do you walk the talk?
  • Do you point out behaviors around you?
  • Do you teach?
